Signs Your Hot Water Heater Needs Professional Attention

Most water heaters give warning signs before they fail completely. Catching them early can save you from a costly replacement or water damage. Watch for:

  • Popping, rumbling or banging noises from the tank
  • Water that’s lukewarm, inconsistent or runs out quickly
  • Water pooling or leaking around the unit
  • A sudden increase in your energy bills
  • Rusty or discolored hot water
  • A pilot light that keeps going out, or a unit that cycles on and off frequently

Ignoring these signs can lead to complete failure and flooding. With gas units, it can also create a carbon monoxide risk. If you notice any of them, call us for same-day support.

How long does a hot water heater repair take?
Many repairs take about one to three hours, depending on the problem and whether parts are on hand. Larger issues or special-order parts can take longer, and we’ll explain the timeline before we start.

The most common are failed heating elements or thermostats, faulty pilot lights or thermocouples, sediment buildup, corroded anode rods, worn pressure relief valves and leaking connections. We find the root cause instead of treating the symptom.

It depends on the unit’s age (tank heaters often last roughly 10 to 12 years), how often it needs repairs, and whether the repair cost is approaching the price of a new unit. A tank that’s leaking from the body usually can’t be repaired and should be replaced. We’ll give you an honest recommendation either way.
